Gastrointestinal disorders: Ulcerative colitis, Crohn’s’ disease, SIBO, Candidiasis, Gastric reflux, Food sensitivities and intolerances

Ulcerative colitis, one of the main forms of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), is an autoimmune gastrointestinal disease- it is a condition that inflames the mucosa of the colon and the rectum. Symptoms include abdominal pain, bloody diarrhea, fever, fatigue, and nutritional deficiency due to malnutrition and absorption issues. This can be exacerbated with poor diet, stress, and emotional triggers. Dr. Lam uses a combination of botanicals, nutrients, diet modification and emotional modalities to decrease emotional and physical stress to minimize inflammation.

Crohn’s disease, the other form inflammatory bowel disease, is also an autoimmune disease which encompasses the whole gastric mucosa from the mouth to the anus. The mucosal disruption effects nutrient absorption and digestion and may cause symptoms of
abdominal pain, severe anemia, cramps, fatigue, diarrhea, and fever. Dr. Lam helps in assessing and repairing the gastric mucosa and rebalancing the microbiome with dietary modifications and botanical and nutrient supplementation.

Small Intestinal Bacterial Overgrowth is a form of irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) where there is an imbalance of microorganisms in the digestive mucosa causing abdominal bloating, irregularity of bowel movements ranging from constipation to severe diarrhea,
loss of appetite, weight loss or gain. Dr. Lam uses tests to identify the symptom causing organisms and address with antibiotics (if requested) or botanicals, modified diets and lifestyle change to address and prevent recurrences.

Candida is an overgrowth of systemic yeast, Candida albicans, caused by a poor diet of processed foods and hidden sugars and low fiber. This can result in imbalance of microorganisms affecting the digestive, respiratory, skin and brain function. Dr. Lam focuses on eliminating the fungus, repairing the gut lining, educating on diet, and healing with plant-based botanicals and pharmaceuticals to modify lifestyle and prevent future recurrences.

A compromised intestinal mucosa occurs when particles of food, bacteria, parasite and toxins disrupt the body and invoke an inflammatory response caused by foreign particles. These particles leak through the intestinal wall and bloodstream due to increased intestinal permeability. Dr. Lam will help you assess, eliminate, and restore the gut lining and balance the mucosa.

Many individuals suffer with food and environmental sensitivities that cause hormonal imbalances, mood disorders, sleep issues, allergies, and respiratory symptoms. It is imperative to investigate these causes and avoid, eliminate these foods in the body to
restore normal functioning, absorption, and digestion of the body.

Endocrine imbalances: Thyroid imbalances, adrenal insufficiency, low libido, chronic fatigue syndrome

The thyroid plays an important role in secretion and metabolism of hormones. An underactive thyroid results in sluggishness, fatigue, hair loss, weight gain and constipation. An overactive thyroid can cause weight loss, tremors, palpitations, fatigue, sleeplessness, and diarrhea. Many nutrients are required for the correct balance and working of the thyroid. Dr. Lam conducts in
depth laboratory assessment to rule out nutrient deficiencies, autoimmune thyroiditis, inadequate working f the thyroid gland and helps in balancing the hormones with botanicals and clean hormones to reset the thyroid gland.

The adrenal gland is constantly overworked with stress and overworked lifestyle. Constant pressure to perform results in a cascade of secretion of hormones resulting in inflammatory conditions and nutrient imbalance. Dr. Lam helps with the identification of causes, assessment and lifestyle and dietary modifications coupled with plant-based hormones and nutrients to support the stasis of the adrenal gland.

Menstruating & Menopausal disorders: Irregular cycles, delayed cycles, Perimenopause and Menopause

Dysmenorrhea refers to severe uterine cramping and contractions around your menstrual cycle. There are many factors including release of a high number of prostaglandins that cause these symptoms. A careful assessment of your hormones with balancing of hormone fluctuations and resetting the cycle is helpful to alleviate the pain and discomfort

Perimenopause is the transition between your regular menstrual cycles till complete cessation of your cycle. Many women report vaginal dryness, hot flashes, night sweats and mood swings during this period. We can help you these symptoms and ensure a smoother transition as your hormones fluctuate.

Menopause is a complete cessation of your menstrual cycle for an entire year – 52 weeks of no bleeding. This also a term used post-surgical hysterectomy or complete removal of the uterus and ovaries resulting in a forced menopause. In addition to vaginal dryness, hot flashes and night sweats, the decrease in protective estrogen increases the chance of osteoporosis, skin sagging and cardiovascular risks. Dr. Lam assesses your hormones and addresses this with bio-identical hormone therapy sourced from plant-based hormones with minimal risk and protective benefits.
